Giving Money Away Makes You Feel Wealthy

Having money to spare is a great feeling. It makes us feel confident, useful, and good to willingly share our hard-earned money to support others down on their luck or a good cause. It makes us feel wealthy to spread money around in a noble and charitable way. But you may ask yourself: What's so great about feeling wealthy? Because money is an inherently good thing, this question is almost too fundamental to answer. It's almost like asking: what's so purple about being purple?

For one, your fellow man will respect and listen to you if you are and feel wealthy. In the Book of Proverbs, King Solomon said: “Wealth is a crown upon the heads of the wise.” It may seem cynical, but we tend to listen carefully to people who are financially successful. We tend to give more deference to the opinion of a wealthy person, because, deep in our hearts, we know that the only way people make money is by successfully interacting with others. Successful people tend to be good communicators and good people. So when we meet someone we know is successful, we tend to be interested in getting to know that person. For someone to have made substantial money, a large number of other people must have trusted and liked this person. We recognize this and want to be their friend. We also correctly assume that there must be something we can learn from such a person. After all, everyone else can't be wrong—there must be something great about this person if everyone ...
