The shaded circle map is better than the sized circle map. With the sized circle map, the
largest circle is about five times bigger than the small circle. This makes it nearly impossi-
ble to see small dots near the biggest dots. Even with the shaded circles, it is possible for
dots to appear too close and for some dots to be obscured. If you zoom in, you can see the
detail of the closer dots. Figure 10.12 shows a close-up of the Midwest. At this zoom level,
you can see several dots that are hidden at the countrywide level.
