Chapter 3. Intermediate and Advanced Synthesis Techniques

This chapter is the second part in this book that focuses exclusively on sound design techniques. This chapter assumes you have read Chapter 2, since it builds on the techniques discussed in that chapter. As you will see, this chapter looks at many of the subject areas covered in Chapter 2, but it considers the techniques in much greater detail.

The explanations in this chapter are accompanied by sonic examples created with Pentagon I, although not every point covered here will have a sonic illustration. The programs we are going to create are available as part of the download package described in the Introduction. We’re going to use Pentagon in these examples for several reasons.
