Impulsive children struggle to plan ahead. Timetables, predictable schedules and consistency in the face of misbehaviour are key to living happily with ADHD.
Time invested in developing routines for your ADHD child will pay sizeable dividends. Standard, unsurprising schedules help children who find it difficult to organise, plan and remember.
A little groundwork is essential before introducing consistency into your child’s life. Set aside some planning time with your partner on quiet nights (after the children are in bed) when there are no distractions. It can be a good idea to plan daily routines, determine what each of your children will be doing. Are there any after-school activities, for instance?
