If photography is all about light, then nature, landscape, and travel photography is all about looking for the light—a stunning spectrum of light to define mood, texture, depth, and character of images.

Overview and Trends

Weather, global warming, endangered species, and the erosion of natural wonders such as coral reefs are hot buttons in the news now. Photographers who can deliver images illustrating these issues gain entry into expanded markets for supplying images not only in the traditional markets of stock, fine art, and galleries, but also to news and special-interest publications.

The field is not limited to strictly documentary and fine-art work. An increasing number of photographers work with tourism boards and advertising agencies for travel-related publications and advertising campaigns. This market is strong and expanding, and it incorporates aspects of fashion, lifestyle, glamour, and editorial shooting. Travel campaigns focus both on vacationers and business travelers. Shooting encompasses both indoor and outdoor venues with concepts that convey not only the beauty, but also the energy of the locale with iconic images.
