Appendix B
Photographing Landscapes
When you create images with your EOS 7D Mark II, the robust features this camera offers stacks the odds in your favor. You’re shooting with a camera that many pros use on a daily basis. However, professional photo-graphers benefit from years of shooting experience, and they instinctively know which settings to use as a starting point to create great images of a specific subject matter. I’ve always been interested in landscape photography, and over the years, I’ve learned which settings to use to create compelling images of the landscapes I visit. In this appendix, I show you the camera settings I use when photographing landscapes, mountains, sunsets at the beach, and reflections in still water. I also show you a tried and true method for taking the picture, because contrary to popular belief, you can’t create great images by just pointing and shooting. In addition to showing you settings and steps I use to take each picture, I also offer some troubleshooting tips in case the image you see on the LCD monitor doesn’t live up to your expectations.
Even if you have no interest in photographing landscapes, this appendix will give you an insight into the thought process involved when creating any photograph. Analyze the subject matter you most love to photograph, use this appendix to guide your thought process, and you’ll come up with settings that will be the basis for some wonderful images.
