Exploring Wireless Features

Your camera enables you to connect wirelessly to a computer, smartphone, or tablet. After you make the link, you can download files to your computer or smart device, use your computer or smart device to control your camera remotely, and perform other functions. Before you can enjoy these features, however, you need to do the following:

  • Install Canon EOS Utility software on your computer. This free program serves as the concierge for USB or wireless communication with a computer. See the section “Reviewing EOS Utility Functions,” later in the appendix, for details. Get the program from the section of the Canon website devoted to the EOS R50.
  • Install the Canon Camera Connect app on your smart device. This free app, available for Android and iOS, is needed for wireless connections with a smart device. Download the latest version of the app and check its system requirements to ensure that your device can run it.

We don’t have room to provide detailed information on these features, because things work differently depending on your computer or smart device, the security your wireless network employs, and other factors. Also, Canon occasionally updates the app and EOS Utility, so you may find a few differences if you’re reading this a year or so after the book’s publication.

Reviewing the Wireless Function Menus

All of the camera’s wireless functions are controlled by using settings found on Communication Functions Menus 1 and 2, shown in
