My Equipment

I have been on a long journey with a camera as my passport, allowing me to witness a diverse and spectacular world. I was a photojournalist during Chicago’s most turbulent times, with civil rights, the Vietnam War protests, and student upheavals shaping my young life. I marched with Martin Luther King, Jr., covered political conventions, and experienced racial hatred that was also directed at members of the press. My images for the Chicago Sun-Times, documenting the Lincoln and Dixon State Schools in Illinois, received the 1971 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography.
