Chapter 9

Taking Action

Everything in the risk process up to this point has been data-gathering and analysis, and we’ve not actually done anything yet to manage the risks. We’ve identified the risks, prioritised them, perhaps modelled their combined effect on the overall project, and planned some responses. But if we don’t do anything, nothing changes.

We’ve reached the part of the risk management process at which we get to actually manage threats and opportunities, and change the level of risk exposure on our project. If we don’t do this, then everything else will be a waste of time, just working out what the risk challenge is, and considering what we could do, but not doing it. It’s time to take action, as described in this chapter.
