In 1979, Rick Warren was finishing up his master’s degree in divinity at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. With a pregnant wife and less than $2,000 in the bank, he wanted to start a new congregation, but wasn’t quite sure where.
