AACR2 general rules and rules for books

Abstract

The chief aim of the chapter is to provide a thorough review of the instructions for cataloguing books. Cataloguing of books is mainly governed by the general rules of chapter 1 of AACR2. Instructions from chapter 2 of AACR2 are needed for the transcription of data about the physical area as the general rules do not cover all the instances. The text presents the commonest general rules of chapter 1 and selected rules of chapter 2 of AACR2. At the end of each section and at the end of the chapter, several step-by-step examples are provide of developing bibliographic records for books.
