University of Coimbra


This chapter notes that the origins of the University of Coimbra in Portugal can be traced back to 13th century Lisbon. After several false starts, the university finally settled in the small city of Coimbra where it has flourished ever since, producing many of the country’s most notable politicians, scientists, writers and thinkers.
