ACLs on the IOS Router and the Catalyst 3550 Switch
You can select from many different types of ACLs when implementing them on the Cisco IOS series of devices. Cisco IOS Software uses ACLs for its traffic-filtering implementation with both a basic and advanced ACL capability, as follows:
Basic ACLs— Filter traffic based on source and destination address and protocol type of each packet
Advanced ACLs— Provide you with a means to configure sophisticated and dynamic traffic-filtering capabilities for a stronger, more flexible network security
