Out-of-Band Management
In a data center network, out-of-band (OOB) management means that management traffic is traversing though a dedicated path in the network. The purpose of creating an out-of-band network is to increase the security and availability of management capabilities within the data center.
OOB management enables a network administrator to access the devices in the data center for routine changes, monitoring, and troubleshooting without any dependency on the network build for user traffic. The advantage of this approach is that during a network outage, network operators can reach the devices using this OOB management network.
