Cisco UCS Power Capping Strategies

Cisco UCS provides the ability to manage power across groups of blade and rack servers within a Cisco UCS domain. This capability is integrated into the Cisco UCS architecture.

Static Power Capping (Explicit Blade Power Cap)

When a power cap is applied to a blade, the CPU steps down to a lower power or performance level and Cisco UCS Manager ensures the blade does not exceed its power budget allowance. Implicit power capping for blades is calculated at 550 or 600W per blade. Figure 15-26 shows the global power allocation policy in the Cisco UCS Manager, which enables a policy-driven or manual blade-level capping.
