Ethernet at layer 1 of the OSI

We have been talking a lot about Ethernet, and rightfully so. Ethernet is a standard that is implemented by a group of companies: Digital, Intel, and Xerox. This group was called DIX. They were the ones who implemented the Ethernet LAN standards first, which in turn helped the IEEE to create the 802.3 Committee.

The original LAN standard was lightening fast at 10 Mbps and ran over coaxial cable, until finally twisted pairs came into the picture, and now it even runs through fiber.

So you can see that Ethernet goes back a long way and, in order to understand Ethernet fully, you should know how it began. The following will show you all the different IEEE 802.3 standards that we should be aware of.
