In the past decade, much has been written on the problem of the uptake and maintenance of safer sex among gay and bisexual men. There is, in this voluminous literature, a dominant paradigm that incorporates and empowers ‘a particular discourse of sex and sexuality which is empirical, epidemiological and atomistic’.
