On March 25, 2021, as the manuscript for this book was being finalized, Bobby Brown died. He was 96 years old. It had been over 26 years since he had been President of the American League, 36 years since he left his cardiology practice, and 68 years after he had retired as a Major League Baseball player.
Five days later, Brown’s memorial service was held at Christ Chapel Bible Church in Fort Worth, Texas. I made the trip up to Fort Worth from my home in Houston. I chose to drive rather than fly to have more time to ponder the life of this great man and the impact he had on my life.
