Old Mittens took a lot of heat for that gaffe. However, what he was expressing was a fundamental truth to the nature of resilience. Thanks to massive financial deregulation and the Citizens United decision handed down by the Supreme Court, corporations and businesses are free to operate in a vague legal fiction that treats them with the same legal rights as a person. In the eyes of the law, corporations literally are people.
