How: Platforms for Mobilizing

In this chapter, we describe some of the potential benefits and hazards of different platforms for mobilization within organizations. Many observers argue that we have entered a new millennium for social movements and innovation due to advances in information and communication technologies. Since the turn of the twenty-first century, there have been a number of “pager revolutions,” “text revolutions,” “Facebook revolutions,” and “Twitter revolutions.” The most consequential have been the series of antiauthoritarian rebellions, starting in late 2010, that came to be called the Arab Spring.
