Frank Deverse is one of dozens of “Fairchildren,” former employees of Fairchild Semiconductor of Mountain View, who, since 1959, have gone off on their own to start and build other semiconductor companies in the Silicon Valley. His International Microcircuits Incorporated, or IMI, designs and manufactures a type of semiconductor called a gate array.
Deverse is not as well known or as flamboyant as some of his Valley colleagues. And the fact that he is neither of these makes him representative of the typical Silicon Valley entrepreneur. The unprepossessing nature of most of them stands in direct contrast to the spectacle of their collective accomplishments.
