Control Plane and Data Plane Operations
This chapter covers the following topics:
Control Plane Operations: This section covers Overlay Management Protocol (OMP) and how the three routing updates (TLOC, OMP route, and service routes) build the control plane. It also covers the multicast routing in SD-WAN overlay networks.
Data Plane Operations: This section discusses how the data plane is established and secured, along with how Network Address Translation (NAT) interacts with overlay provisioning.
As discussed in Chapter 2, “Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Components,” and described in the list that follows, Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN consists of four operational functions (see Figure 3-1):
