CHAPTER 16

Configuring Dynamic Routing

Cisco routers can be configured with static routes and will work quite well and do an impressive job of acting as the traffic directors of the network. But perhaps the most impressive and robust feature that can be enabled on a Cisco router is dynamic routing.

When a dynamic routing protocol is enabled on the routers in a network, much of the work of managing the network is done automatically by the routers themselves. In this final chapter, the enhancements that dynamic routing provides are covered and the basic configuration of the interior gateway protocols are discussed. Specifically, this chapter covers the following topics:

  • Understanding routing protocols
  • Configuring routing protocols
