Collecting data from your routers is the key to understanding the growth patterns of your network. Monitoring the usage of your network links helps in capacity planning, congestion avoidance, and budgeting forecasts. Monitoring the overall health of the routers in your network can aid in preventing crippling network outages. Several common health indicators that should be monitored are

  • Environmental status such as internal and external temperature of the network device

  • Internal processor performance (CPU load)

  • Power supply load
