Chapter 14. Troubleshooting the Physical Layer

This chapter focuses on troubleshooting the physical layer of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model. This is the first layer, the one in which the actual physical connection is defined. The physical layer defines the cabling type, connector type, and distance limitations of the transmission median use. It also defines the electrical characteristics of the signaling that are used on the various cable types. This includes the Cisco interface cards for the modular Cisco routers and the built-in interfaces of the other Cisco products.
