Unity also can detect when the e-mail system has delivered a new voice message to a
subscriber’s inbox. This is necessary to provide for a visual indication that a new voice-mail
message has arrived (such as a telephone’s message waiting indicator). Along with MWI,
the capability to detect these message arrivals enables Unity to use alternate means (such
as calling a specified telephone, calling a numeric pager, or sending a message to a text
pager) of signaling to the subscriber that a new voice-mail message exists.
