Chapter 15

“Show Me,” Said the Missourian

In grade school we learn arithmetic and to check our work. You check your addition of three plus five equals eight by then subtracting either five from eight to get three or three from eight to get five. Sounds simple enough, unless you are a six-year-old, in which case the concept takes several months to master. From there you move on to multiplication, which you check by dividing, and division, which you check by multiplying. Then they change the name from arithmetic to mathematics, and it gets really complicated, but the point is that you need to check your work. You find a way to prove your answer.

At last, JoAnn and I had our answer to the question posed by the lady in blue at the Mustang Library: “But what is the real reason for your success?” At last, we knew that the answer was a two word miracle: Clients First. Finally, we could say that the secret to unlocking the door to immense success was to hold the three keys of honesty, competence, and care. And we knew the great power of this concept and the great responsibility that comes with it.
