THE FUTURE OF CITIES
Unlike humans, birds, butterflies, camels, and sharks live outside. Most do not have access to food storage and must spend a big chunk of their day searching for it. Unlike humans, they cannot buy a bus ticket and move to a better geographical location that offers their favorite temperature and food opportunities.
Climate change will almost certainly cause extreme dislocation for many ecosystems as they experience changes in rainfall and temperature. Ecologists are measuring the speed that different animals, birds, and plants can move. Intuitively, if you are fast you can move a greater distance, and then you can find your new favorite location in our hotter world.
