Almost nothing in Clojure is new. Quite the opposite—some of Clojure’s ideas are very old. It may seem to be a fledgling language when stacked against Java, C++, and other high-mileage languages, but don’t let the new-car smell fool you. When Rich Hickey wrote Clojure, he did so using mature ideas and sound theories.

Let’s explore the language’s history, observing those principles at ground zero. Set the dial on your way-back machine to 1936.
