13Pointing Fingers

The next morning, Brian got up, fixed himself a healthy (and smaller) breakfast of oatmeal and eggs, and made his way again to the practice field before the sun came up. He could feel his legs and lower back were already getting sore from the quick workout on the previous day. No stranger to pain, he realized it had been awhile since he experienced the soreness of training. Even though he was moving a little gingerly, he also remembered the pride that came along with the pain of a workout. When he got out of his car, even though he was early for the scheduled workout, the old coach was again already there.

“Top of the morning,” greeted the old coach.

“Good morning, Coach,” replied Brian. “I don't know how you do it. Seems like you're always pumped up with energy.”

“A person is always on fire when he does what he loves. And a long time ago, I figured out it wasn't who I was working with, I just loved coaching people and watching them improve. Ever since then, I've never had a problem getting up in the morning. The only trouble I ever had was that all that energy had a tendency of keeping me up late, too.”

The old coach bent down again under the chain in front of the practice field entrance. This time Brian did as well and paid a little more attention to his movement and the reason behind why he was doing it.

“Spending time with you this week has helped me realize that, too,” said Brian.

“Well, before we run out of time, let's get started with the workout. ...
