THE CLEAR COACHING SKILLS illustrated in the Coaching Prism (see Figure 6.1), are common, everyday communication techniques you already use when interacting with others. By creating a conscious awareness around your use of these skills, you will learn how to increase the effectiveness of your coaching conversations.

Being clear and concise is critical to many aspects of the coaching conversation. For that reason, coaching and clarity go hand-in-hand. Thus, the acronym CLEAR was created to represent the coaching skills because it acts as a constant reminder to you as the coach to be CLEAR.
