Refine is the skill that keeps the coaching conversation on topic, on track, and relevant. Refine is about not letting the PBC try to fix other people, but rather having the PBC focus on his or her part in the situation and what he or she can do about it. In other words, what is the PBC's role?

The Refine skill is about making sure that the coaching conversation is primarily unidirectional in nature. Not that the dialog won't have its twists, turns, and even backward glances, but ultimately it should move the PBC forward to action.
