THE RIGHT STUFF OF LEADERSHIP
One aspect of leadership development that receives relatively little focus is the topic of “presence.” The topic often arises in coaching as something that is missing. Often a senior executive, or a human resource partner, will comment that a rising executive has everything necessary to succeed and perhaps make it to the highest levels of management save one thing—an inability to present him or herself as a leader.
I use the term present in a holistic sense, an inability to convey the right sense of authority, the necessary comportment, and sadly, an inability to get others to see this individual in a senior leadership position. What is missing can be fatal to a career, but if addressed ...
