Taking Action

The focus of a coaching session is to pinpoint issues, and to plan a course of positive action made up of specific tasks. At the end of a session, gain agreement and commitment to an action plan, which can be reviewed and assessed at a later date.

Setting tasks

The options uncovered during the session provide the basis for action. The tasks agreed upon must move the coachee nearer to the agreed goal. Choose tasks that match the coachee’s competence and level of confidence. Agree a task that extends the coachee, but not so far that there is an unacceptable chance of failure.
