Chapter 21

Ten Traps to Avoid in Coaching

In This Chapter

  • Raising your game as a coach
  • Maintaining healthy, helpful relationships with clients
  • Paying attention to your process

Coaching is a highly sought after skill and like all skills, it needs to stay sharp to stop you getting into bad habits. If you're honest, you accept that your skills aren't perfect. Thank goodness! You're only human and sometimes you get it wrong.

Part of developing as a coach is to engage in regular self-reflection on the quality of your coaching and notice where you come unstuck. Ask yourself, ‘What's the interference that trips me up at times?’ and ‘If I were being observed right now, am I walking the talk?’

In this chapter, you can read about some common pitfalls and identify some helpful first steps to begin correcting your course.
