Carbon Capture and Storage

The release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere is considered to be responsible for global warming, the heating of the global atmosphere through the greenhouse effect. This is propelling a worldwide movement to restrict emissions from coal fired power plants. Control can be achieved using carbon capture and storage technologies. There are three main technologies being explored, post combustion capture, pre-combustion capture – which is a form of coal gasification – and oxyfuel combustion where the fuel is burnt in pure oxygen instead of air.
