Abstract

This chapter presents a short review of the approaches leading to the production of high-value activated carbons from spent coffee and of the applications of these carbons in various environmental separations and energy storage processes. The carbons were obtained using either physical (with steam or carbon dioxide) activation of chars or chemical activation with KOH, ZnCl2, or H3PO4.
