21.1. Introduction

The protocols described and reviewed in this chapter are primarily for point-to-point, session-oriented traffic that is being sent over a communication link from one cognitive radio (CR), the source, to another cognitive radio, the destination. Our protocols are suitable for mobile ad hoc networks in which packets must be relayed to reach their destinations, but we focus on the transmissions between two radios that are within communication range of each other.
