Chapter Three Information Processing Technology for Cognitive Systems Engineering

There are a variety of tools, methods, techniques, devices, and architectures available to the UCI designer; many more will emerge as we move toward the 21st century. The challenge—as always—lies in the extent to which designers can match the right tool or method with the appropriate problem. This section looks at a number of technology options now available to the designer, options that will evolve quite dramatically during the next 5 to 10 years. More specifically, the section examines the information technologies available to the cognitive systems engineer.
