Chapter Nine Issues, Trends, and Opportunities

This book has attempted to demonstrate the linkage between findings from cognitive science and user-computer interface design and development. Case studies were used as the demonstration/communications vehicles. We have tried to demonstrate that there is a measurable positive effect of adding interface features from what we know about human cognitive processes. We undertook the project because whereas there was a lot of discussion in the literature about “cognitive engineering,” there was relatively little work devoted to demonstrating the process empirically.
