Recently, the author is interested in a problem of heat conduction across a partially insulated wall. The problem can be simplified to a two-dimensional one and stated in the following manner:
The upper surface of the wall with thickness t (Fig. 1) is in contact with the material to be cooled. The lower surface, however, is in contact with cooling medium only at regular intervals of length b. The distance between these cooled regions is a. The problem is to determine the heat conduction from a the upper surface to the lower surface.
