Although the methods described in this chapter may not have the blessing or respect of “big iron” colorists, they are still valid ways to envision your footage and to have the footage show you what you need to do to fix or improve it.

This is casual postproduction industry lingo for big,expensive, dedicated hardware. In this context, it means “the guys who operate the million dollar color correction suites.” Big iron is a term meant to separate the men from the boys, but it really separates the men’s bosses from their wallets.
