MTS Structures

This section explains the hierarchy of MTS objects and how MTS works internally. We'll start off by learning about packages, the MTS administrative units. Then, components and contexts will be discussed—these are important for the COM+ chapters that come later in the book. Activities and roles are then talked about to round out this section.

Packages

A package is a group of objects with a common goal; a package can often be considered to be the middle tier of an application. Two types of packages—server and library—exist in MTS. A server package runs in its own process; a library package is loaded into the process space of the client.
