Scope of This Book

The book starts in Chapter 1 with a discussion of the concepts and terminology in combining and modifying SAS data sets.

Chapters 2 through 7 present examples that combine, modify, and reshape multiple SAS data sets in different ways. The examples in Chapter 2 combine data sets vertically by concatenating, interleaving, and appending them.

Chapters 3 through 7 show different ways of match-merging data sets and combining them horizontally. The examples in these chapters show you how to code simple match-merges by value, how to code more complex matches using indexes, how to define and use lookup tables, how to combine summary and detail data, and how to modify SAS data sets in place.
