Two problems plague traditional sources of energy, such as oil, natural gas, and coal: their increasing monetary cost and their increasing opposition from environmentalists concerned about the hazards of burning these fuels. It’s not hard to see that renewable sources of energy, such as solar and wind power, will attract more attention in the near future. Since the first edition of this book was published, renewable energy as an industry has received a tremendous amount of media, social, and political coverage. Many factors account for this increased attention, least of all the calls for countries to reduce their fossil fuel consumption in light of the global environmental impact of burning such fuels.
