What Is Common Sense, Anyway?

If left to the U.S. Supreme Court, the term common sense would probably be labeled in the same manner dirty pictures were defined. When asked what constituted pornography, one esteemed jurist noted, “I’ll know it when I see it.” We generally can identify common sense when we see it. Perhaps more important, we find it quite easy to identify when we don’t see it.
