Local and Long Distance Telephony

The free-fall in telecommunications continues to dampen expectations—and job prospects—for a sector whose valuation has fallen by two-thirds since the end of 1999. The U.S. Department of Commerce definition of telecommunications includes elements ranging from local exchange and long distance/international services to cellular telephony and paging (the latter elements are explored in other chapters of this book).
