When we think about today’s competency-based organizations, it is not that much of a stretch to take General Patton’s quote and rephrase it to: Never tell people how to use their competencies. Tell them their goals, and they will surprise you with their ingenuity.
We may not be ready to talk about our goals for next year until the next chapter, but it is time for you to review your employees’ performance from last year.
