You’re probably not going to be surprised that complex networks have...a complex structure. From the ancient times to modern days, researchers and practitioners have confronted complexity by dividing a complex system into smaller parts—constituents—and then taking a closer look at the parts and making sense out of them. A part could be as small as a single network node or as large as a so-called giant connected component (GCC). (You will meet a GCC laterhere; for now, it suffices to know that it is giant.)
