Bolted joints in pultruded glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites
G.J. Turvey, Lancaster University, UK
Abstract:
This chapter outlines the pultrusion process used to manufacture glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) profiles. It is emphasised that GFRP structures use bolted joints. More efficient structures require modern design methods for which load‒deformation data on bolted joints is critical. Test methods for the acquisition of such data are described. Data for single/multi-bolt tension joints subjected to various environments are reviewed. Finite element (FE) analyses of stresses and load-sharing in joints are also described. Design methods and design guidance for tension joints are discussed. Finally, research requirements ...
